The social life quality in contemporary Mersin

Abstract

Mersin takes 17th place on the list of the social-economical development of the Turkish cities. It has rather high development potential on the trade, industry and the service sectors. The main objective of this study is to define the life quality of Mersin City. Also, it is aimed to analyse the effects of the urban tissue on the life quality. The fact of the life quality will be examined under the light of the subjective (satisfaction rate, … ) and objective indicators (welfare, security, equality, … etc. ). The preliminary findings of a rather compherensive field research which realized with about 1420 household in 2008 will be used.

D. Ali Arslan, Mersin Üniversitesi, Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi, Sosyoloji Bölümü

Sosyolog ve siyaset bilimci.
İngiltere’de “University of Surrey” de, Sosyal bilimler metodolojisi alanında yüksek lisans (MSc.) ve yine aynı üniversitede, siyaset sosyolojisi alanında doktora (PhD) yaptı. Sosyolojinin değişik dallarında çok sayıda akademik çalışması bulunan araştırmacı Gaziosmanpaşa Üniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesi’nde dekan yardımcısı, orta öğretim sosyal alanlar eğitimi bölüm başkanlığı görevlerinde de bulundu. Halen, Mersin Üniversitesi, Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi, Sosyoloji bölümünde öğretim üyesi olarak görev yapmaktadır.
