Ottoman Empire integration process into the world system and the evolution of underdevelopment

Abstract

The world economy from the end of 16th Century to the 19th Century could be portrayed as the integration of nations’ economies within the world system along with the progress of capitalism. During this transition period, the center-periphery relation became more evident. It also caused differences in economic development across countries. Understanding these differences requires the analysis of imperialism which emerged with the progress of capitalism. However, the experience of Ottoman Empire differed significantly from the experience of other countries, because of its unique social and bureaucratic structure. Therefore, this different structure, as well as its interaction with the world system, must be taken into consideration to understand how the Ottoman Empire had been integrated in the world system and evolved to a less-developed country. This analysis is need to explanation of concept of underdevelopment and problem which is gathering in this concept. Because, critically importance to reach this process, how the Ottoman Empire is gradually integrated world economics system and turn into dependent economy.
