Computer supported maqamic/musical analysis of the scales in Turkish Classical Music

Abstract

In this study, the scales of Turkish Classical Music was analised in terms of mellodic pattern and it was compared according to the quantitative data. In this inquiry, scale and mellodic pattern features in music formation were pointed and in order to make a musical analysis, mellodic pattern features are transformated into quantitative data. The study is limited by sol stabilized maqam /mode.

The study is a qualitative search. In this inquiry, relational scanning model based on determining relation by correlation was used. In order to get quantitative data, oral works of art in song and folk song forms from the repertoire of TRT TSM were used. Relation between the data gained from song and folk song forms was searched statistically according to the significance level.

As a result of the search, according to musical analysis; it is determined that the quantitative datas gained from GTSM scales shows parallelism with qualitative datas. It is attained that this method of analysis is tend to make musical denomination.

Hasan Tahsin Sumbullu, Atatürk University

Hasan Tahsin SUMBULLU was born in Erzurum in 1976. He carried out his primary, secondary school and high school education in Erzurum. In 2000, he graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Music Sciences Branch with faculty grade. Sümbüllü, starting his teaching carreer in 2000 at Erzurum Sabancı İÖO connected with MEB ( Ministry of National Education), was appointed to Erzurum Atatürk University Fine Arts Faculty Music Sciences Branch as a Researc Assistant in 2002. In 2005, he was charged in Gazi University Science of Education Institute according to the Law of YÖK no 2547 clause 35. He accomplished his graduate in 2006 and doctorate education in 2009.

Sumbullu, professes lute (ud), tanbur and bağlama instruments. He has served in programmes connected with Erzurum Government Theatre, TRT Erzurum Radio, TRT Ankara Radio and Chamber of TRT TV, has taken part as performer in solo and grouped performence concerts in the country and abroad and several universities in our country.

At present, he carries on his assignment at Erzurum Atatürk University Fine Arts Faculty Music Sciences Branch as Assoc. Prof. Dr.

Aytekin Albuz, Gazi University

Aytekin Albuz was born in Zonguldak in 1971. After he had finished primary school in Gökçebey and completed high school education in Devrek. He matriculated Gazi Education Faculty Music Education Discipline of Gazi University in 1988. He graduated from that department in 1992. In the same year, he began to master education (M.A.) in the same department and finished in 1995. In 1996, he began to work as a research assistant in the same department in Gazi University. He began his doctorate education in Music Teaching Programme of Institute of Science and Technology in Gazi University in 1996. He finished his postgraduate education in 2001. Aytekin Albuz, who has four books, thirteen essays, seven announcements and many works over a hundred, studied on viola teaching education both in his master and in postgraduate education. Albuz still continues to work in Gazi Education Faculty Music Education Discipline of Gazi University as an Assoc. Prof. Dr. and he carries on his superviser occupation in master and in postgraduate programs.
