Abstract

Marking systems used in the education system at the universities in Turkey differs from each other in application. In this study, the student group at the state of graduation in 2010-2011 academic year in Mathematics Department of Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Sakarya University are considered and the differences of marking systems between the student groups are emphasized. It is concluded that there is a need to develop a certain process in order to get rid of these differences. Also, the fit tests of normality of data obtained from seven semesters are studied under the general weighted averages of grades belonging each semester and as a result of this investigation it is observed that there are differences between semesters. Özet Türkiye’deki üniversitelerde öğretim sistemi içinde kullanılan not sistemleri bazı farklılıklarla uygulanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, 2010-2011 öğretim yılında Sakarya Üniversitesi Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi Matematik Bölümü’nden mezun olabilecek durumdaki öğrenci grubu ele alınarak bu farklılıklar üzerinde durulmuştur. Farklılıkların giderilmesi için süreç geliştirilmesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca, yedi yarıyıldan oluşan verilerin her yarıyıla ait ağırlıklı genel not ortalamaları üzerinden normallik uyum testleri yapılmış ve yarıyıllar arasında farklılıkların ortaya çıktığı gözlenmiştir.

Nesrin Güler, Sakarya University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Statistics

Nerin Güler has been working as a faculty member at Sakarya University (SAU), Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Statistics as an Assistant Professor since 2009. Her contribution to Turkish education system is not limited with SAU; she worked in several schools of Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education as a teacher in 2001-2009. She received her master degree and doctorate in Mathematics from Sakarya University.Her current research interests include the Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Theory and Applications.
