Abstract

Although being one of the major composers of religious music in the Ottoman era, Ali Şîrûganî Dede, who was famous throughout his life as well as afterwards, is not known nowadays much well as he deserves. In this article Ali Şîrûganî Dede is introduced and information is given on his musicianship and his works, while his situation in the history of Ottoman music is pointed out and especially his importance with regard to religious music is emphasized. Some new information about the subject is also presented within this work.
