Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of Turkish version of the Patriotism Attitude Scale (PAS) developed by Schatz, Staub and Lavine (1999). The study of the PAS was conducted on 490 undergraduate students at Gaziosmanpaşa University. For the exploratory factor analysis of the validity of the scale, factor loadings of the blind patriotism and the constructive patriotism factors were found between .331-.645, and .570-.792 respectively. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis for the goodness of fit statistics were computed as RMSEA= ,078; RMR=,080; SRMR=,071; GFI=,90; AGFI=,87; CFI=,81. The Cronbach’s Alpha for the internal consistency coefficient was found .76 for the blind patriotism, .77 for the constructive patriotism, and .75 for the PAS. In line of the findings obtained in this study, the PAS can be considered as a valid and reliable instrument for the blind and constructive patriotism attitudes.
