Turkish counselor educators’ opinions about counselor candidates’ dispositions<p>Psikolojik danışman eğitimcilerinin psikolojik danışman adaylarının mesleğe ilişkin kişisel eğilimleri hakkındaki görüşleri

Abstract

Counselor candidates are assessed though homework, exams, projects and thesis during their education. On the other hand, there are some discussions about assessments of their dispositions besides their academic achievement. Even though here is no consensus about what these characteristics are, openness, self-awareness, honesty can be given as an example. The purpose of this study is three­fold: a) to describe what Turkish counselor educators think about which dispositions counselor candidates should have, b) how these dispositions can be developed or enriched and c) how they can be assessed. Researchers developed a questionnaire with five open ended questions and it was sent to 48 counselor educators via email, 34 of them from 23 universities (three of them were private) sent their feedback, so return rate was 71%. The findings were analyzed by using descriptive statistics such as frequencies. According to findings, counselor educators mainly revealed that honesty, being open for communication, empathetic understanding, self-awareness, being flexible and helpful are fundamental dispositions. According to counselor educators these dispositions can be developed by increasing the number of practicum courses, adding counseling supervision courses and practices to education program, being a role model as counselor educators. Counselor educators suggested that dispositions can be assessed by evaluating students’ performance during practicum courses, using test and non-test assessment techniques, observing them and interviewing. Results were discussed in light of current literature. Özet Alanyazında psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik öğrencilerinin sadece akademik başarılarının değil mesleğe ilişkin kişisel eğilimlerinin de (dispositions) dikkate alınması gerektiğine ilişkin tartışmalar bulunmaktadır. Bu özelliklerin neler olduğu konusunda tam bir fikir birliği olmasa da bu kişisel eğilimlere açıklık, saygı, dürüstlük, öz-farkındalık örnek olarak verilebilir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik (PDR) eğitimi veren akademisyenlerin, psikolojik danışman adaylarında hangi mesleğe ilişkin kişisel eğilimlerin olması gerektiğine ilişkin görüşleri incelenmiştir. İlgili alanyazına bağlı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından bir anket hazırlanmıştır. Anket, üçü vakıf üniversitesi olan toplam 23 üniversitenin PDR anabilim dallarında görev alan 48 öğretim üyesine e-posta aracılığı ile iletilmiş, % 71’lik dönüş oranı ile 34 öğretim üyesinden geri bildirim alınmıştır. Elde edilen nitel verilerin değerlendirmesi frekans (sıklık) dağılımı analizi aracılığı ile yapılmıştır. Bulgulara göre psikolojik danışman adaylarının dürüstlük, iletişime açıklık, öz farkındalık, empatik anlayış, esneklik, yardım etmeye gönüllü olma gibi özelliklere sahip olmaları gerektiği daha fazla vurgulanmıştır. Psikolojik danışman adaylarından beklenen mesleğe ilişkin kişisel eğilimlerin eğitim süreci içinde bireysel ve grupla psikolojik danışma uygulama dersleri ve süpervizyonlu dersler ve danışmaların artırılması aracılığıyla; ayrıca öğretim üyelerinin rol model olması, ders dışı sanatsal-kültürel faaliyetlerin desteklenmesi yoluyla geliştirilebileceği önerilmiştir. Psikolojik danışman adaylarının mesleğe ilişkin kişisel eğilimleri ne kadar geliştirdiklerinin, psikolojik danışma uygulamalarındaki performanslarına bakılması, test ve test dışı ölçme araçlarının kullanımı, gözlem yapılması, süpervizyon deneyimleri ve görüşmeler aracılığı ile değerlendirilebileceği belirtilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular alanyazın ışığında tartışılmıştır.
