Abstract

In this study, self-disclosure behaviour of 1st year students in Educational Faculty was examined according to the variables; gender, department and the places where the students stay. Subjects of the study were selected from 1st year students attending Educational Faculty, Aksaray University in 2009-2010 academic year. “Self-Disclosure Inventory” by Selçuk (1989) was applied to the students. In data analysis, t test was used to find out the differences in self-disclosure behaviour between girls and boys. One Way Varience Analysis (ANOVA) was used to find out if the students’ self-disclosure behaviour differs according to their departments or the places they live. The study has produced the following results;

   1. A significant difference, between female and male students, favorable to females, regarding the average points, self-disclosure according to the subjects and to other individuals has been found.
   2. In disclosing personal ideas and opinions and Self–disclosing points in excellence, sexuality and personality subjects a significant difference between point totals of Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department (PCG) students compared to those of Elementary School Mathematics Teaching students. In Self–disclosing points on personal ideas and opinions in school excellence subjects a significant difference between the comparative point totals of PCG students to those of Social Sciences Teaching students.
   3. A significant difference between the self–disclosing points of PCG students to those Elementary School Mathematics Teaching students has been found compared to self-disclosing to close friends and to Psychological consultant. A significant difference between the self–disclosing points of PCG students to those Social Sciences Teaching students has been found compared to self-disclosing to close friends and to Psychological consultant.
   4. No significant difference in accommodation make-up is observed regarding students’ total points in terms of Self–disclosure points in self-disclosing to other individuals and to the subjects.
